You can never learn too much...
Learning - Its the one thing we've been taught to get use to ever since we were about three. It started off with the simple going to school to learn how to read , write , talk, play, share and basically grow and it seems that after all these years and countless classes, exams and results we are still not done learning.
What is it about this act that we just cant seem to get enough? they say "you're never to old to learn" and yet this process or whatever you choose to call it seems to have a life of its own.
It seems that realising that there is an infinite amount of learning to do does not happen unless you've crossed a good amount of time in your life and have decided to day dream away your lazy Sunday afternoon in "deep thoughts" while having a Micheal Buble CD serenade you in the background... or maybe that's just me.
Either way it sets upon you like the horrific truth that it is where you see that even after having followed all the rules and suggestions your parents, teachers, doctors and even friends have given you, you still aren't done with all the god damn learning!
At first it seems like a cruel joke and your mind claims with almost a sense of defeat " I thought I did all that was asked!, surely by now I have earned the right to relax!" but no...sadly that isn't the case.
Truth is learning takes on a whole new meaning with the passing of age and time and though it no longer includes simple things like your ABC's or grammar (though some people are still working on that one) you now often find it being presented in a different light.
Learning now becomes synonyms with words such as "Journey", "Destiny", "Karma" and finally for a lucky few: "Wisdom" which contrary to popular belief is apparently not the end of the road or the point where we have "learnt it all", but rather the ultimate understanding the lies behind accepting that there is always something to learn.
Yes we grew up, somewhere along the birthdays, exams, tears and laughter of it all we changed and so did our circumstances and hence we never stopped learning, we just started learning differently.
We learned to accept, to expect, to love, to leave, to struggle, to feel and perhaps most importantly to survive.
Learning sucks, I'm not going to lie and I'm sure every little kinder garden kid out there who cried (like i did) the first time they saw their parents leave them in an odd little colourful room with ten other random kids and a weird adult to "learn" will agree with me.
But that's just it, it happened because it had to...the very second your parents let go of your tiny hand, looked into your eyes and told you "It will be ok, you need to do this for your own good" you were part of the game. That very moment onwards you were made to learn all sorts of things good and bad! and you were meant to do it alone because at least as i was told, "you need to do this for your own good".
It was scary then and its scary now especially since life seems to have crept up from behind me and changed the entire definition of the term "learning" a good five years ago if not more.
But today even though it scares me and even though i have been hurt, I try my best to remember that its for my own good and that if the above logic regarding wisdom holds true, its not about reading a good book on Life, memorising the ideas of "Karma" or even achieving "Nirvana" that gives us the wisdom soo many of us need, but keeping this one simple rule I believe Einstein was able to best explain in his quote in mind that gets us through - "Any fool can know. The point is to understand.”
Basically you've had to learn all through school because you had no choice, but in my opinion the trick is in realising that even though you might not always remember all the academic stuff you learnt in school or Uni, remember that your experiences are there to teach you things you will need to UNDERSTAND not just know no matter what! and accepting that fact sooner rather than later can make all the difference.
In the end who knows? i guess if we all just agree that we aren't perfect and that one truly can never learn too much ideologies such as wisdom, Nirvana and all those other cool sounding things might be closer to us than we think.
